2041 Community Vision

Our region is one where people of all cultures, backgrounds, genders, sexualities and abilities are welcomed, celebrated and protected. We are proud of the vibrancy this diversity brings to every aspect of our lives.

Our townships are places of nature, warmth and a sense of community. Our streets and public squares are filled with movement, colour and inclusion.

Our parks and open spaces provide a place for reflection and respite. We can connect with nature everywhere we turn to celebrate the unique natural history we have living in our own backyard.

When we meet, we look out at one of our favourite places in the shire – the beautiful Grampians (Gariwerd) – and acknowledge and celebrate our Traditional Custodians of the land, part of the longest surviving culture in the world. Our region is an Aboriginal homeland where we walk alongside Traditional Custodians on a shared path towards treaty, justice and reconciliation with First Peoples.

Introducing our Community Vision 2041

In 2021, council developed a community vision for the next 20 years, a guiding material which clearly outlines the aspirations for our municipality and will inform the strategic planning and decision-making processes for the future of Northern Grampians Shire.

Our vision is simple - to love where we live. You can read more about each of the eight key vision objectives below.

  • Innovative and sustainable developments that have mixed uses at different life stages.
  • This is essential for creating new jobs and attracting new families to the region.
  • Incentivise new businesses and reduce red tape to help existing businesses and agriculture expand.
  • Develop new events to attract new investment opportunities.
  • Capitalise on our geographic position, our unique offerings and our history.
  • Focus on responsible eco-friendly tourism and transport opportunities.
  • Boost our media facilities and improve mental health resources that focus on inclusiveness.
  • Develop the facilities and capabilities to deliver a range of recreational activities and events for all ages, with the aim of increasing participation and connection.
  • Create events, arts and culture to help us connect with one another.
  • Identify improved transport connections that help people get to where they want to be.
  • Advance our digital connectivity to support learning and business.
  • Provide options more relevant to community livelihoods to cultivate purpose and demonstrate opportunity.
  • Attract all ages to develop new skills, to stay and support our community as we grow.
  • Advocate for more responsible water management and green waste recycling.
  • Plan for future power sources such as wind and solar power, along with sustainable transport such as electronic vehicles.
  • Let the community know about what is going on, what decision they can make and what happened if you asked them for their input.
  • If something cannot happen, inform the community why not and provide options that might be available instead.
