Cr Karen Hyslop will lead Northern Grampians Shire Council as mayor for the next 12 months after being elected at a statutory meeting in Stawell tonight.
The council decided to introduce a deputy mayor to help with succession, with Justine Hide to fulfil the role for 2024-25.
Crs Jenny Greenberger, Jack Blake, Murray Emerson and Karen Probst were also officially sworn-in at the meeting.
Crs Hyslop and Emerson are the only returning councillors, with the remaining four elected to council for their first term.
Cr Hyslop said the new council looked forward to building on strong foundations and would work hard to further enhance a shire that had so much to offer.
“We’re very enthusiastic to be the best we can be for our amazing shire and community,” she said.
Council also thanked outgoing councillors - Rob Haswell, Kevin Erwin, Eddy Ostarcevic, Trevor Gready and Lauren Dempsey - for their service.
Cr Erwin served the community on council for 21 years.
