Halls Gap Trailhead construction to start on January 15, 2025

Northern Grampians Shire Council in conjunction with Parks Victoria is commencing enhancement works on the Grampians Peaks Trail starting from Wednesday, January 15, 2025.
The Grampians Peaks Trail is getting upgraded access points including a new trailhead and welcome point in the centre of the Halls Gap/Budja Budja township.
This upgrade will involve new track and boardwalk starting opposite the shops on Grampians Road, gathering spaces, rock seating, signage and walking paths along Stony Creek in the caravan park.
Construction is expected to take approximately three months. The bulk of this will be doing the main area along the creek between Grampians Road and School Road, adjacent to the swimming pool. There will also be some minor trail work done near the caravan park.
Parks Victoria has worked with the contractor to minimise the impact on parking while the project is underway. So that the work can be done safely, 12x carparks will be unavailable while work is underway – 5x opposite the pool and 7x opposite Grampians Road. As soon as they can safely make these carparks available again they will. Please review the map below so you can see the planned impact on carparking.
After careful consideration following advice from a registered arborist, between 10 to 15 trees of various sizes will need to be removed because they are in poor health and present a hazard.
If construction is not almost complete by the start of April, they will pause between April 4 - 27 so that more carparks can be made available again and reduce the impact on visitors, business and the local community.
Once the work is complete there will be a net loss of just three carparks in the area.
Parks Victoria and Northern Grampians Shire Council are working in partnership to deliver these improvements. All project decisions are made in consultation with Traditional Owners and are in line with the Greater Gariwerd Landscape Management Plan and the Halls Gap Action Plan Stage One.
