Northern Grampians Shire Council pre-election candidate sessions

Published on 10 July 2024

If you are considering representing your community by standing for Council in the October elections, then attending the Victorian Local Governance Association’s Candidate Development Program is a must.

There are no special qualifications to become a local government councillor, other than enthusiasm, and a desire to serve your community. However, a good understanding of the role can help you to know if it is right for you.

Northern Grampians Shire Council will be hosting two online sessions delivered by the Victorian Local Governance Association as part of a Pre-Election Candidate Development Program. The sessions are free and will help prepare community members interested in standing as candidates in the October election.

“I encourage anyone thinking about standing for Council to attend one or both of the free online sessions. It will help answer your questions and prepare for the upcoming election,” Northern Grampians Shire Mayor, Councillor Rob Haswell said.

The first online session, Becoming a Councillor, will be held on Thursday 18 July, 6.30pm - 8.30pm. Bookings are essential, please register at https://ow.ly/iCT250SvF7e

The second session, Life as a Woman Councillor, will be held on Thursday 25 July, 6.30pm - 8.30pm. This session supports the Victorian Government’s target of 50% women in local government by 2025 which is also backed by Northern Grampians Shire Council and we encourage interested women to attend.

Bookings are essential, please register at https://ow.ly/FygX50SvF7f
