The Great Western Oval Lighting Upgrade project is an outcome of the Great Western Future Plan 2014-24 and the Great Western Redevelopment Master Plan 2018-28.
The Great Western Recreation Reserve Oval lighting upgrade is a high priority as the current lighting does not cover the entire ground nor does it meet minimum standards.
The project brief requires that the lighting is upgraded to a standard commensurate with AFL guidelines for training purposes and that the output is 50 lux or greater to ensure the Great Western Football Netball Club is able to support its current and future training and participation needs.
This project is funded by the State Government - 2021 Local Sports Infrastructure Fund Community Sports Lighting stream to the value of $150,000 and a further $80,000 contribution from Northern Grampians Shire Council to cover the full project cost.
The Great Western Football Netball Club and community have been consulted as a part of the process and have indicated strong support for the project. The project commenced in October following on from the council awarding the contract to the appropriate tenderer and was completed April 2022.
