Great Western Netball Court Development

The Great Western netball court is utilised by the Great Western Football and Netball Club at the recreation reserve. The existing court has substantial base issues resulting in pavement/surface damage. A Facility Condition and Compliance Audit Report completed in 2017 determined the court is nearing the end of its useful life and requires reconstruction.

This project included a Great Western Recreation Reserve Master Plan to determine the most appropriate position for a new netball court within the precinct and is now at the stage of the development of a competition standard netball court, which is both compliant with Netball Victoria Standards and includes lighting for nighttime use.

Will the netball court be ready to play on for the 2019 season?
The aim was to have the court opened for the first home game however unfortunately due to complications with the project there has been delays with completion for 2019 season. All changes are directed through the Great Western Football & Netball Club, Netball Victoria and the Mininera & District Football and Netball League to discuss options.

Will tennis be moving to this new court?
No. The tennis courts will remain in the existing location. The court will include netball lines, and if the community requests to have this court as multipurpose, tennis court lines and the ability to include a net will be added at a later date.

How will the court be constructed and what will it be constructed of?
Council engaged an industry professional to undergo a review of all netball facilities in the shire. Recommendations resulted in prioritising the Great Western court as a high priority. The court will be constructed of concrete as recommended with a synthetic, netball approved, final surface. This construction type will provide a long-term solution and sustainable cost-effective future maintenance outcome.

What is the total cost?
The total project cost is $200,000.

Who is paying for it?
The Great Western Football & Netball Club is contributing $40,000 in cash and in-kind, Sport & Recreation Victoria is contributing $100,000, and the Northern Grampians Shire Council up to $60,000.

What colour will the court be?
Great Western Football & Netball Club will choose the colours for the court surface.
