Lord Nelson Park St Arnaud is regarded as the main sporting venue in the North Central Region of Victoria, providing community facilities and sporting and recreational infrastructure. Lord Nelson Park is home to a range of activities including football, netball, harness racing, hockey and cricket as well as the St Arnaud Agricultural Show.
Through the creation of the 2015 Lord Nelson Park St Arnaud Precinct Plan, a 10 Year Plan, the vision is:
"Lord Nelson Park is a sensational, modern, well used and safe sport, recreation and community hub in the region"
Northern Grampians Shire Council has identified that the infrastructure at the park is aged and many facilities no longer meet all of the requirements of the users, both in amenity and functionality. The usage of Lord Nelson Park has been increasing and this has also put pressure on existing facilities. With the rationalisation of recreational assets across the region there is need for a critical review of the precinct design, accessibility and shared use to ensure the venue is able to cater in the future for the wide and varied users.
In January 2018 council formed the St Arnaud Recreation Advisory Group to provide participation in higher level projects around the Lord Nelson Park reserve and since the May 2019 announcement of funding from the State Government, the group has provided significant input into the first stages of concept design for the new clubroom facility.
The community is invited to stay informed on the progress of the Lord Nelson Park Multipurpose Sporting Facility and other projects at the reserve through regular updates on this website and social media.
