We thank our residents, tourism industry and visitors for providing quality feedback to the draft Northern Grampians Shire Council Local Area Action Plan.
We received a large amount of feedback that has helped us learn if the community relates to the vision and strategic directions of the document. This information will be presented to the councillors at an upcoming Councillor Briefing. Following the Councillor Briefing, we will let you know about the next steps we will be taking to ensure that the visitor economy remains strong and grows and our community is supportive of the direction we are taking.

Local Area Action Plan

Northern Grampians Shire Council and Grampians Wimmera Mallee Tourism (previously Grampians Tourism) have developed this Local Area Action Plan (LAAP) to set out the vision and aspirations for the visitor economy for Northern Grampians Shire over the next five years.

The LAAP has been developed parallel with the Grampians Destination Management Plan (DMP) and aligns strongly with this.

This LAAP is a key document that will assist the council, industry, and community to strengthen the visitor economy in Northern Grampians Shire, further developing their visitor offering and, as a result, will assist in building the resilience needed to mitigate economic vulnerability.

Strategic Objectives

The strategic objectives of the LAAP are:

1. Facilitate investment in the visitor economy that strengthens the position of Halls Gap as the major staging post for accessing the Grampians Peaks Trail and the national park along with new accommodation for Great Western and Stawell as well.

2. Support First Nations-led product development and delivery of tourism experiences throughout the LGA.

3. Achieve sustainable visitation patterns by growing visitor dispersal throughout the LGA to support business sustainability and growth in all of the towns.

4. Increase visitor yield by growing visitor dwell time and growing overnight visitation through expanding the accommodation base and attractions throughout the LGA.

5. Generate investment in supporting infrastructure that will enable sustainable visitor economy growth, especially in peak periods.

6. Support a cohesive, integrated, and supported industry and community which encourages longer trading hours, especially in weekend periods etc.
