Family Violence is a serious and widespread problem:

  • On average one woman a week is killed by their current or former partner

  • Every 6 minutes police attend a family violence incident

  • Children are present in 30 per cent of family violence incidents attended by Police.

With Family Violence statistics continuing to rise in our shire, Northern Grampians Shire Council has committed to creating and sustaining an environment where families are safe and protected from violence by:

  • Appointing a Prevention of Family Violence Officer.

  • Adopting a Family Violence Support Policy and Procedures

  • Mandatory training for all employees

  • Creating an Advisory Group to promote and embed Primary Prevention across the Shire

Awareness of Violence Against Women

The Northern Grampians region experiences high rates of family violence. This is a serious issue that needs to be addressed in our community. It is important that all members of our community stand up and speak out for those who have experienced gender-based violence.

Northern Grampians Shire Council is a proud member of the Women's Health Grampians CoRE Alliance.
